WHY IS DAVID A MAN AFTER GOD'S HEART ?

1. DAVID SHOWED UNWAVERING FAITH AND TRUST IN GOD.

David expressed his trust in God in many ways, such as when he fought against Goliath, he acted in faith and in front of many people, trusting that God would fight for him.
"He trusts in the Lord," they say, "let the Lord rescue him. Let him deliver him, since he delights in him." (Psalm 22:8)

2. DAVID SOUGHT GOD'S WILL AND DIRECTION IN HIS LIFE.

"Teach me your way, Lord, that I may rely on your faithfulness; give me an undivided heart, that I may fear your name." (Psalm 86:11)

3. DAVID WAS REPENTANT AND ACKNOWLEDGED HIS SINS.

Although David was not perfect, he was quick to repent for his sins. After he committed adultery with Bathsheba and Uriah, he was quick to repent when Uriah was killed. In Psalm 51, David prayed to God for forgiveness and expressed his remorse for his sins and other Psalms.

"But my eyes are fixed on you, Sovereign Lord; in you I take refuge—do not give me over to death. Keep me safe from the traps set by evildoers, from the snares they have laid for me. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, while I pass by in safety." (Psalm 141:8-10)

4. DAVID EXHIBITED GRATITUDE AND REVERENCE FOR GOD.

David was known for his worship and music, which were both dedicated to God. David sang praises to God, and many of his psalms were some of the most beautiful and heartfelt words in the Bible.

"I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all your wonderful deeds. I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High." (Psalm 9:1-2)

5. DAVID CARRIED OUT GOD'S COMMANDS AND WAS OBEDIENT.

David was obedient to God's commands and laws. He demonstrated this when God commanded him to take over the kingdom and become the next king of Israel.

"I will hasten and not delay to obey your commands." (Psalm 119:60)

6. DAVID WAS HUMBLE:

"The Lord is exalted, yet he looks kindly on the lowly; though lofty, he sees them from afar." - Psalm 138:6

David, despite his royal status and leadership position, recognized his own limitations and continually sought God's guidance and wisdom. David's humility allowed him to rely on God's strength and power, and ultimately led to his success as a king and leader.

7: HE HAD FORGIVING SPIRIT:

David, who was the second king of Israel, is known for his many accomplishments and his profound faith in God.

David also demonstrated a willingness to forgive others. Yes, there are several instances in the life of David where he demonstrated forgiveness towards others.

1. Forgiving Absalom: (2 Samuel 18:1-end)

2. Forgiving Saul: (2 Samuel 1:17-27).

3. Forgiving Shimei:  (2 Samuel 19:16-23).

4. Forgiving Joab:  (1 Kings 2:5-9).

These examples demonstrate David's willingness to forgive even those who had wronged him or acted against him, out of a desire to show mercy and seek reconciliation.

David's life is a testament to the importance of seeking forgiveness and extending forgiveness to others.

IN SUMMARY

God saw in David’s heart the qualities that made him a man who was dedicated to serving and pleasing God above all else. His faith, repentance, obedience, worship, and love for God made him a model of what it means to be a man after God's heart.
